The Powerpuff Girls

The Powerpuff Girls is one of the most popular Cartoon Network original series. I designed countless Powerpuff promotional items, style guides, POP, premiums and shop.com merchandise. One of my favorite PPG projects is this page from a Cartoon Network calendar. Each designer was given a series and a month and the theme was "posters". Our only "rule" was to stay within the poster theme, and we could design any way we chose. I designed my Powerpuff Girls month to be reminiscent of psychedelic posters from the 60's.

Contrary to what might be expected, The Powerpuff Girls Movie is a fairly dark and violent action flick! The movie tells the origin story of three superheroic little girls who save the day before bedtime. The challenge was to draw a distinction between the film and the series while remaining true to the original show. I designed this poster and tradeshow bag before the movie was ready to view. It was exciting to be involved in these early stages, and my favorite project was this exclusive lobby card set - which includes 10 scenes from the movie and a faux Townsville newspaper. The cards were given out as premiums at the movie premiere.

I learned so much by art directing and designing these windows for the Warner Bros. store on 5th Avenue in New York City. It was exciting to see them in the end, but there were some unexpected issues that taught me a few lessons going forward. The project was recognized in the Communication Arts Design Annual.
