DarkStar Tribute

DarkStar is a virtual space I created for Grateful Dead fans. This self-initiated project was in the works for over 5 years. I built virtual full-scale replicas of Grateful Dead album covers - the biggest difference being that an avatar can walk inside the buildings. I used my imagination for the interiors and other parts I couldn't see in the original images.

Inside the Mars Hotel, I made a game that involved all the characters from Grateful Dead songs living in the hotel. The object was to get a message to the right chareacter in the right room. Room numbers were displayed as clues all around the lobby of the hotel.

Along with Mars Hotel, I built Terrapin Station, the Wall of Sound, Franklins Tower, a Grateful Dead Museum and other recognizable and relevant structures. I created countless virtual objects and details based on Grateful Dead songs. There were countless details alluding to lyrics and Grateful Dead culture and history. Literally, thousands of people visited this virtual simulation where live music events were presented.

You can see parts of the "sim" in this video I made: Watch
