Monsoon Music

This project has evolved through many stages and forms. The latest incarnation is a website for Mike Monsoon's Song Journal, a "musical novel." This collection of songs tells a story, and each song is a chapter in this written novel. On the site, the listener can navigate to the song list and choose a song. They will land on that specific chapter page where they can hear the song and read the chapter and lyrics. Each chapter features an illustration, and these are a few of my favorites. The story is about a demon that lives in Mike's basement and survives by feeding on people's "creativity."

I learned so much by designing this website. It was a big lesson in responsive design. And I subsequently took several classes to gain some knowledge and skills I needed. I recently redesigned and wireframed the whole site according to what I learned. You can see that latest version here as well as a very early version of the hero page.

The project started out as a creative challenge in which Mike wrote and produced a song everyday for almost a year. I designed a header where visitors could click on the "collaborate" button and suggest ideas for new songs. I created art for each song. You can see some illustrations from that early phase here. The first is about two fish during a presidential election; second is for a song called "Stranger In My Bed" and on the right is "My Toe and Your Arm" about a couple that meets in a doctor's office waiting room.
